Backyard Halloween Bash

We have a fun Halloween party to share with you today from our friend Melissa Newell, who is also part of our  Polka Dot Balloon magazine creative team! Have fun reading all about her Backyard Halloween Bash!!

Greetings from Transylvania….(aka our backyard)!   I am so happy to be sharing our Annual Halloween Party with you today.  Each year in late October (providing there is no snow), we transform our yard into a Halloween happy place!   We invite over 100 friends and family to join our family in a fun night of bonfires, food, dancing and more.

This year was the best yet (I think I say that every year as it gets bigger and I get better at it).   I start about 3 months ahead of time with my sketch book of ideas, lists and projects lined up.  When the day finally arrives, somehow, the vision all comes together!

We ask everyone to dress up (even parents) and most do.  This year was particularly windy and a little cooler than years past, so not everyone’s costume was appropriate for the weather.

Besides having a great time together, our family is adamant about giving back to the community in some way.  We always attach a charity of some sort to our parties. This year it was the local animal shelter.  I was happy to see so many children bringing change from their piggy banks to give to the shelter.  We raised $ 105.83 that was donated on Monday.

Some of the fun included...a fortune teller, the Witches Brewhouse (hot chocolate bar), witch displays, a candy bar, Ichabod’s Eats (food), Bonezy’s Bar, we even hire a DJ to keep the crowd dancing  for hours.

When our guests are ready to leave for the evening they never go home empty handed. All the children received a creepy black coffin goodie box filled with treats. These boxes were so easy to put together and just big enough to fill with an eyeball lollipop, mustache whistle, stickers and a spider ring.

I always have such a great time styling and planning this party!  As you can probably guess, I am already full of ideas for next years’ party!  Thinking…creepy fairytales!  Until next time – Party On Friends!

Just saw this now, but wow! The party looked awesome! Love that parents dressed up as well for the event and the coffin goodie boxes are just too cute. :)
