To kick off the beginning of our school year, which starts on the 12th, I hosted an impromptu lunch and play date for my kids and a few buddies. I mean what better reason to celebrate?? It was a good way to switch my brain from vacation mode to routine mode! You could pull this party together with the supplies around your house! Here are the details…
Brown paper bag lunches (I love these. Can make the night ahead. I included ham/turkey & cheese sliders, chips and apple slices. Staggered juice boxes on the table.)
Notebook Paper Dry Erase Board “place-mats,” and mini dry erase markers (Target $1 bin.) These were a take-home too. Kids loved them!
Craft paper table cover. (My go-to. Lots of colors to choose from. Easy clean-up.) Used a chalkboard marker to dress it up!
School Supply centerpiece. I grabbed packs of construction paper and writing tablets from my boys’ stash and stacked them for some height, and used our Mason jar pencil holder for a topper.
I had ONE themed dessert - “Book Worms.” I just skewered a gummy worm, with a Rice Krispie treat on top! The treats were a book shape, which was good enough for me, but you could certainly add some detail to them. Recycled 4” BlumeBoxes served as the holder, covered with crayons.
“Backpack Buddy” favors. A pack of tissues, hand sanitizer, and a few Burt Bees cough drops. Everyone knows the beginning of the school year brings lots of germs!
2.25” squares, flags, 4.25” squares, 6.25” squares, baggie toppers, 8” squares
That’s it folks! I keep things simple, pretty much all the time. Kids really don’t need gobs of food, treats or activities to have fun.Stick to a few main elements and make them shine!
